We need more people like this in government…

“Now back in 1927 an American socialist, Norman Thomas, six times candidate for president on the Socialist Party ticket, said the American people would never vote for socialism. But he said under the name of liberalism the American people will adopt every fragment of the socialist program.

There are many ways in which our government has invaded the precincts of private citizens, the method of earning a living. But at the moment I'd like to talk about another way because this trip is with us and at the moment is more imminent.

One of the traditional methods of imposing statism or socialism on a people has been by way of medicine. It’s very easy to disguise a medical program as a humanitarian project. Most people are a little reluctant to oppose anything that suggests medical care for people who possibly can't afford it.

Now, the American people, if you put it to them about socialized medicine and gave them a chance to choose, would unhesitatingly vote against it. We had an example of this. Under the Truman administration it was proposed that we have a compulsory health insurance program for all people in the United States, and, of course, the American people unhesitatingly rejected this.

So with the American people on record as not wanting socialized medicine, Congressman Ferrand said, if we can only break through and get our foot inside the door, they can we can expand the program after that. Well, let's see what the socialists themselves had to say about it. They say once the Ferrand bill is passed, this nation will be provided with a mechanism for socialized medicine capable of indefinite expansion in every direction until it includes the entire population. Well, we can't say we haven't been warned.

James Madison in 1788, speaking to the Virginia Convention said: “Since the general civilization of mankind, I believe there are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachment of those in power, than by violent and sudden usurpations.”

Now in our country under our free enterprise system, we have seen medicine reach the greatest heights that it has in any country in the world. Today, the relationship between patient and doctor in this country is something to be envied any place. The privacy, the care that is given to a person, the right to chose a doctor, the right to go from one doctor to the other.

But let’s also look from the other side, at the freedom the doctor loses. A doctor would be reluctant to say this. Well, like you, I am only a patient, so I can say it in his behalf. The doctor begins to lose freedoms; it’s like telling a lie, and one leads to another. First you decide that the doctor can have so many patients. They are equally divided among the various doctors by the government. But then the doctors aren’t equally divided geographically, so a doctor decides he wants to practice in one town and the government has to say to him you can’t live in that town, they already have enough doctors. You have to go someplace else. And from here it is only a short step to dictating where he will go.

This is a freedom that I wonder whether any of us have the right to take from any human being.

In this country of ours, took place the greatest revolution that has ever taken place in world’s history. The only true revolution. Every other revolution simply exchanged one set of rulers for another. But here for the first time in all the thousands of years of man’s relation to man, a little group of the men, the founding fathers for the first time – established the idea that you and I had within ourselves the God given right and ability to determine our own destiny.

This freedom was built into our government with safeguards. We talk democracy today. And strangely we let democracy begin to assume the aspect of majority rule is all that is needed. Well, majority rule is a fine aspect of democracy, provided there are guarantees written in to our government concerning the rights of the individual and of the minorities.

What can we do about this? Well, you and I can do a great deal. We can say right now that we want no further encroachment on these individual liberties and freedoms and that you demand the continuation of our traditional free enterprise system. You and I can do this. The only way we can do it is by writing to our congressmen, even if we believe that he's on our side to begin with, write to strengthen his hand. Write those letters now. Call your friends and tell them to write. If you don't, this program, I promise you, will pass just as surely as the sun will come up tomorrow. And behind it will come other federal programs that will invade every area of freedom as we have known it in this country... until one day as Norman Thomas said, we will awake to find that we have socialism. And if you don't do this and if I don't do it, one of these days you and I are going to spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it once was like in America when men were free.”

48 Million people without Healthcare?

Lots of talk lately about Obama’s plans for our Healthcare system.  I've noticed a few issues with his math, semantics and plan.

First, Obama claims that 48 Million people are without Healthcare.  Whoa... wait.  Be careful here... healthcare does not equal health insurance.  People not having healthcare hits you in the heart, but that's not the issue.  Anybody can get healthcare in an emergency.  If it's not an emergency, well, then you're just like everybody else in America... you get it when you can.

Be careful with the war of words... what Obama is claiming to push (now) is Health insurance.  This is only his start-- ultimately the Obama government wants to control healthcare by making private insurance too expensive for employers or yourself to purchase.  You think it's expensive now?  You can control what you want to be covered for.  With government run healthcare, you're going to be required to get the full coverage... how spendy is that?  Imagine this... you own a car.  Your insurance company requires you to get coverage for a car, motorcycle, boat, RV, etc... it will be too expensive for our tax dollars (which shouldn't be paying for this anyway.)

Second, be careful with the numbers that are floating around.  I'm hearing 48 Million as the main one.  Please keep in mind that this amount is broken down as:

12 million = illegal aliens.  Do we really need to give them free non-emergency healthcare?

12 million = young, well-paid folks who choose not to pay for any insurance.  Not the best choice, but statistically they don't rely on healthcare like other groups.

12 million = the poor, who are already entitled to government programs (e.g. Medicaid) that have not yet signed up for benefits.  This rolling group typically signs up when problems pop up, or when they need it.

12 million = the real problem-- those who cannot afford it, who are the working poor.  This is the group we must concentrate on - the other groups have no need to be addressed.

Now, we've identified 12 million people who need help.  Do the math... 12 million out of 330 million in the US... that's 4%!!!  Do we really need to overhaul the current system, give control to the government, tax private hospitals and doctors and private insurance to fix a 4% issue?  NO!  What I suggest is to target fixes on the working poor who cannot afford it.  Don't kill the 96% of Americans who have the best healthcare in the world.

How do we fix this 12 million/4% problem?  Let businesses run free from government interference...  let them pay less taxes, so they can hire more, and afford provide healthcare to their employees.  Make it easier to allow the "rich" small business owners to do their job and employ people.  Let capitalism and competition drive efficiency with new technology.  We don't need government to do this-- we need the consumers to demand it by free choice of the best healthcare providers they find.

So, be careful what you hear during June 24th's "Obama infomercial" on ABC... ABC is giving total control to the White House, which to me, is unethical and is becoming of state-run media like we see in Iran, North Korea and China.  Be careful where we let our "leaders" take this country.  I fear the "change" you voted for, is not understood by those who voted Obama and the Democrats into power.

"... no longer a Christian nation..."

It's been a while since I've last posted... so many distractions from all the issues going on, but I see them clearly.  We keep going in the wrong direction-- yes, change is happening, but I fear the wrong change.  Change can be good, can be bad-- it can be the right change, it can be the wrong change.  People wanted change, yes... but is this the change we need?  The change we want?  Not me.

Today is a D-Day anniversary.  It reminds me of a quote by President Obama: "... we are no longer a Christian nation..."  What do you think?

I hope this makes you think.

AIG Woes - my views

Ok, so everybody is up in arms about AIG bailout and bonuses.  Here's a few of my points that I hope you think about:

1) $165 million out of the $165 billion given to AIG by Geithner accounts for 0.10% of the handout-- that's 1 tenth of 1 percent!  If you gave me $10, it would be the same to complain about how I spent 1 PENNY.

2) Let's not forget who gave AIG the money, and told Chris Dodd to remove any restrictions on bonuses... Obama and Geithner!

3) Do you know what the difference is between performance and retention?  The bonuses given out are RETENTION bonuses.  It's for keeping people around.  Let's see-- if your company was going out of business, would you stick around till the end?  Or would you start looking for a new job?  Duh-- look for a new job as soon as you could, right?  AIG is paying bonuses to keep people around.

4) Keep in mind that WE WANT THE BAILOUT MONEY BACK (and I'm talking about the $165 BILLION.)  How do you expect that to happen if you take away contractual bonuses, meant to keep people around in the first place!!!!  It makes no sense to me, to want to take away 0.10% of the money and expect people to stay around, to work on getting $165 billion back to the taxpayers.  Sheer stupidity if you think it's going to happen by magic dust or fairies.

5) Tell me this-- if you worked for a company, and they gave you airline tickets as a Christmas bonus, then 2 months later, said you cannot use them and to give them back, would you really want to work there?  Keep in mind that the minute we think the government can break contractual labor and payment agreements, then we have opened up the door to just about anything.

6) As for creating a special tax to try and reclaim the bonus money, the government is constitutionally FORBIDDEN to single out any body, person, business, entity and punish them financially.  But, I have to digress on this because, in reality, there's not much left of the constitution left, under the past few years of a DEMOCRATIC controlled congress, and now under the Obama administration.

THINK WITH COMMON SENSE!  Don't blindly follow CNN/ABC/CBS/NBC/MSNBC/NPR/WP and the other 80% liberally controlled media.

Coexist?

Hopefully this makes you think that we can all "coexist" peacefully....  Don't let the liberals fool you.  We need to have morals and standards for good reasons.
